For Lily, my BIG little girl!
You were six months old and full of fun,
with a blink of an eye you were suddenly one.
There were so many things we were going to do,
but I turn my head and then you were two.
At two you were still dependent on me,
but independence took over when you were three.
Your third Birthday, another year I wished to ignore,
but as I lit the candles there weren't three but four.
Four was the year that you really strived,
why, look at you now, you're already five.
Now you're ready for books and rules,
this is the year that you go to school.
That big day came you were anxious to go,
we walked to the bus, going oh so slow.
As the bus drove away and you waved good-bye,
I felt a lump in my throat and a tear stung my eye.
For when the bus brings you home and you jump to the ground,
you'll be wearing your cap and graduation gown.
Time goes by so fast its hard to believe,
why just yesterday you were at home with me.
So I am holding these moments as close as I dare,
In a twinkling, a woman will be standing there.

Well, as I'm sure you've guessed, Lily started kindergarten today. The days that I could sleep in are over (sigh!) now it's 6:15 a.m. And wow, that is a toughy! We all packed up, headed out, and of course got stuck in school traffic. When we got there Matt stayed in the car with Madilyn, and I walked Lily to her classroom. Nobody was in there yet, so we waited out in the hall. I was told that for the first week I could walk her in, but after that I needed to drop her off around back. The kids all go into the gym, where their teachers are waiting, and then they all walk single file to class. Yeah, sorry, but I'm not just dropping my baby off at the door. Next week (and maybe a little longer) I'm going to walk her into the gym.
They have it really organized, and it really is a nice school, as much as my DH won't admit it. It could be the best private school in the world, and he would still find reasons to complain. But, who can blame him, it's only his little angel we're talking about!
She was doing o.k. but while we waited I think it sunk in that I was really going to be leaving her there, and she started saying, "I'll miss you mommy," and "I love you the bestest", it was hard but I kept my composure. The hardest part came when the teacher and class walked in, and she went in with the other kids. They all sat in the floor by the door, and me and another mom were taking pictures, and when I blew Lily kisses, she returned them, and started tearing up, I had to wave bye and leave. I know she will be o.k. as soon as they start playing, she'll snap out of it. Hopefully anyway!
Madilyn on the other hand wanted to go to HER school too, and she screamed all the way home!
This will be a big adjustment for all of us, but with time, I hope it will become easier to handle.

What a huge step!!! I'm tearing up just reading this. I don't know how in the world I'll handle taking my girls' to their first day of kindergarten. Congratulations Lily, and mama!
:-)
This brought back memories of my first time in kindergarten (I was SUCH a shy, scared kid so it was like torture when mom would drop me off). Hope she enjoys school as much as my sisters did!
For some reason, I can't get the drop shots to play darn it!
Angie, A real tear jerker. Great pictures and memories. Love you all.

What a sweet video, made me teary eyed watching it. Lily is a beautiful girl who is going to love kindergarten. It's harder on the mommies than the child, but you'll adjust and pretty soon you'll be just like the rest of us moms....counting down the days till school starts up again! heehee!
Enjoy your time home with Madilyn.
I cried like a baby the first day of school. It will get better.
(that's my song to my daughter as well!)
Very touching. I hope you can adjust quickly and that Lily has the best day in the world on her first day of school!
We can all look forward to weekends, Fall break, and then Thanksgiving break, and Christmas break, Spring break, some days off for Teacher conferences and other meetings and then SUMMER VACATION!!!! Yaaayyyyy!!!
Oh Angela, That was so sweet. I can't imagine taking LiLi even to Mother's Morning Out! LOL ~ so I'm not, keeping her home with me. It will become easier, but I am going through all of this, all over again with Ian, who we kept home last year, and it is a year that I will treasure all of my life!
Ladybug hugs,
Debbie
Angela, what a beautiful slideshow. I love the Martina song too! Your daughter is beautiful! Hang in there! We teachers know how to take care of the children when you parents entrust them to our care!
Thanks also for the encouraging words on my blog!

Well you did it, you made me cry. I remember Astrud's first day of school, she tried so hard to be a big girl and did great, me on the other hand beat my momma back to the car for the first two weeks of school every year at least until 4th grade. Love, Kristy
