Yeah, I'm having a nose job!
O.K. I went to the doctor this morning.
Wait, let me back up a little bit!
Almost three years ago, I had a root canal done on my upper left back tooth. For over two and a half years nothing, no feeling, no pain, nuttin!
This past April though it starts hurting, and when I say hurting, that is almost an understatement, It is absolutely undoubtably KILLING ME!
I've had two babies, and that pain was nothing compared to this! It was the same pains I was having before I had the root canal.
So my first thought is that I must have an infection in that tooth, maybe from a crack or something.
Well, I go to the dentist, and she takes x-rays, and sees nothing wrong with that tooth, but she does notice that my sinuses look cloudy. So she prescribes me an antibiotic, and a pain med.
Shortly after I start on the antibiotic, the pain fades away. The pain med on the other hand made me puke my guts out (sorry if this is too graphic!)
Well almost immediately after I'm done with the medication, the pain comes back. Now I am scared cause we were going to Destin that weekend, and my BIGGEST FEAR is hurting to that degree again. So I call the dentist back, to ask for some other pain med. She writes me something else, plus another round of antibiotic.
For almost two months, no pain, life is great, and then BAM, it starts AGAIN! So now I go to the Endodontist who did my root canal, he takes more x-rays and again, doesn't see a thing. So he tells me that we could do the root canal over (free of charge) or for me to go to an ENT (Ear, nose and throat DR.) Plus he writes me another script for pain AND another antibiotic. Well, if I'm gonna go to an ENT, I don't really want to start on an antibiotic, and then it clears up WHATEVER I have and they don't see anything, so I just wait. And keep putting it off. This is about the time that I am gonna go meet all the girls at the Bloggy bash! Just don't feel like going to another doc right now. So I go to Georgia, but knowing that the pain is slowly coming back (it always starts out mild, and then works up to an unbearable level) I get the prescription filled just in case! Boy am I glad I did, as the first night that I was there, it got to the unbearable level, and so I start on the meds, and have a HORRIBLE sleepless night! This time though I had a 10 day dose, and as usual the pain fades and goes away.
For a little while!
Now a month after the Par-tay, it's back. So, by golly I'm going to an ENT! All the while not thinking that it was my sinuses, I could have sworn it was THE tooth!
Well, I went last week, and they sceduled me for a CT scan (cat scan) this morning.
And let me tell you I was SO CLOSE to going ahead and having the tooth pulled before today.
Well whataya know, I have a major sinus infection! It was so cool looking at the scans of my face. He didn't even have to point it out, I could see where the infection was!
So now I get to go Monday morning for a Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery!
Oh, boy what fun!
Sounds exciting doesn't it? Are you jealous?
I also have a deviated septum! So for him to be able to do the other procedure, he has to fix this first! AGAIN, WHAT FUN!!!

A,
I feel your pain (well maybe not quite to THAT extent!) I had an old root canal crack in the root which caused significant pain and an unusual taste - like moth balls (probably had an interesting smell as well - pardon my graphics). It was way in the back, so I had it yanked (now, THERE'S a primative experience) and went home with practically my whole head numb. My wife greeted me at the door and kissed me ..... what a wild sensation with novacaine! I LIKED it! I'll spare you the rest of the details but all that to say that I hope all goes well and they find the 'root' of your problem. I enjoyed reading your description of the festivities.
Sorry for the pain. My dad had this done, and it was not fun. I hope things go well for you.
Oh man that sounds awful! Sending you good wishes and big hugs for an as-pain-free-as-possible surgery and a really fast recovery. Yeesh...
Nothing hurts worse than pain in your head/face area. I hope that your September month gets much better soon.
Yikes! Wishing you a really speedy recovery!!
Holy moly - get that stuff fixed up in a hurry!
I have to say I want to know how Snow White sounds when she's all snuffly.
Oh, and 'too graphic' - what's that mean? ;0)
You know what, I'm not stuffy at all! That's why I was so shocked when I saw it on the scan, I can breath just fine, and I don't feel like I have sinus issues, it just hurts through my cheek and teeth. WEIRD I tell ya!
Oh yeah, blast, sign me up...ha!
Hope it goes well and I'm glad it wasn't your tooth- tooth work sucks.
And GEEZ... you are so stoic!! I never would have known you were in pain when we were in GA!!
Welcome to the Deviated septum club!! Lucky you!!!, No really I hope you start feeling better. I will keep you in my prayers.
Love, Kristy
Good Golly! I knew you were in pain when we were in Georgia, but I had no idea. You are one strong woman!
I will be thinking of you on Monday. I hope all goes well.
I LOVE the new blog header. Did you make that? It's beautiful.
Stacy,
Thanks, and no I can not take credit for the header! Heather made it for me, I wouldn't even know where to begin!
Oh, by the way got me one of those Neti pots, weird! but in a nice way, have to get used to it.
Holey moley! I've had that kinda sinus pain before... it's so bad it makes you want to stab someone...lol. But I hope this finally takes care of that awful pain! My mom has the same thing too, and I dont' envy you... Hope everything turns out!!!
I've had the nose worked on twice. Once it was broken, and the second time they went back to rebreak it and line everything up. Never again, I don't care! That is PAIN!
I feel for you!!!
How ya feelin, chickadee?
Actually believe it or not, it wasn't that bad! I felt the best the day of surgery! When I told DH I didn't hurt, he says, "yeah, they must have you on some kind of pain med through your I.V."
When my Dr. came in before I could leave I asked him, and nope, nothing! Can't believe it myself! I'm just more tired than anything!!!
Sounds very similar to what my husband went through 9 yrs ago. We're military and he was down in Montgomery going to school for 7 weeks. Came home and thought he had come down with a horrible cold. So they put him on a Z-Pak and 10 days later, he's still not able to breathe. So they give him meds for a sinus infection. Still not going away. So they think it's allergies and do the allergy test all up and down his arm. He has some slight allergies to grass & animal dander but it's really slight. So they give him more meds for sinus infection. I keep telling him that there's something in his sinuses as I could feel it pushing on them. But he wouldn't listen to me because the doctors swore they could treat it. Finally they send him for a CT and sure enough he had polyps in his nose and a huge FUNGUS growing in his sinus. We still have the CT film since they did 2 copies. It's kind of cool and gross to look at. So he had outpatient surgery to have it removed. Go figure I was right.
BTW, I found your blog though Special K's. I'll keep reading!
